Hummingbirds on Vancouver Island

It seems that each fall we see a lot of hummingbirds at our feeders. We know for sure that certain varieties stay over our mild winters. They are such cool birds that I thought I should do a small blog on them. See some of the ones we have seen on the island in the collage above.

Yesterday, Dec. 7, a hummingbird came flying around my porch in Nanaimo - obviously looking for food although I had given up feeding them in June, for lack of customers!
So, I quickly made up some nectar and hung up the feeder. Since then, the bird comes by frequently.
